History of Cardiff Indoor Market

So as many of you know our florist shop is based in the historic Cardiff Indoor Market. @Cardiffmarket. The impressive Victorian structure that now stands was actually built on the site of a jail! It opened it’s doors as a market in 1891 and has been trading goods ever since. The Indoor Market can be found in the heart of Cardiff town and we have been trading there for 13 years now, however it has been a florist for over 100 years. The photo above was our store in 1965. The market has so much to offer, it’s a unique shopping experience not to be missed. Not only does it have a strong sense of community in which you’ll always find a friendly face. It also happens to be full of awesome independent businesses…

@hardlinescoffee – providing Cardiff and beyond with artisan coffee. These guys roast their own beans and have the best tasting coffee around, such a unique flavour! They have 2 outlets, one next to us in Cardiff Market and one in Canton. You can also buy their beans to brew at home. Go check them out!

@hatsemporium – here you’ll find one of a kind, high quality men’s vintage clothing. They source everything from 1920’s motorcycle jackets to hand tailored tweed coats. We know one of our wedding couples sourced their bow ties and pocket squares here, a guaranteed unique look for your wedding day.

If you’re looking for some style inspiration look no further than the owners Levi and Stuart, always dressed head to toe in vintage attire. These guys know a thing or two about style!

@cardiffbakestones – you’ll smell them before you see them! The heavenly scent of Bakestone’s famous Welshcakes wafting through the market aisles is second to none. Made fresh on site, these welshcakes amongst many other delicious sweet treats draw queues of people every day. We can’t deny they’re pretty much an everyday purchase for us, find me one person who can resist that smell!

@thegreenerykitchen – offering up super tasty vegan food! Here you’ll find colourful creations for lunch, dinner and pud. If anyone says vegan food is boring, bring them here! The owner utilises Cardiff market stalls and creates innovative recipes for all to enjoy.  We’re not even veggies but you’ll find us here having a porcini beetroot burgers and chai sticky toffee pudding for lunch. Greedy, we know! Check out their Instagram and you’ll see why.

@J.T.Morgans  @A & S Griffiths – Family owned and run quality butchers, serving Cardiff and beyond with a great selection of meats. Both of these guys provide a lot of city centre restaurants with their meat so you know it’s got to be good. They also do home deliveries.

@Ashton’s Fishmonger – one of the largest fish suppliers in the UK. They boast a wide selection of fish and even some exotic meats. They know everything there is to know about fish, they’ll prepare your purchase to your liking and even advise you how to cook it! Their counter displays are infamous, you’ll be sure to see some unusual creatures of the deep.

@secretgardencardiff – last but not least us. Bringing you gorgeous blooms and unique plants all year round. Flowers being our first love, we create beautiful custom arrangements from something as small as a gift bouquet to all out room transforming floral installations for weddings. We’re passionate about flowers and creating beautiful designs.
